AP ART PORTFOLIO

Assignment for my AP Art and Design Portfolio, September 2021 – May 2022
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, paper, ink, acrylic paint

My AP Art Portfolio focused on my Jewish heritage. Each of the four main pieces has two different versions, which tend to show a more stripped-down and a more complicated version of each concept. I made the base of each piece with pencil, acrylic paint, charcoal, and collaged paper and ink respectively, and then edited them in Adobe Photoshop and layered Hebrew and English text from four relevent Torah portions and other elements on top.

The first piece, a self-portrait, illustrates how my appearance connects me to my ancestors.
The second piece, the desert landscape, represents the confusion felt by many young people when trying to reconcile their Jewish identities with other values and aspects of modern life.

The third piece, the charcoal drawings, depicts myself at my Bat Mitzvah and shows my personal struggles with Judaism.

The fourth piece, the suitcase, explores the conflict I have felt between a desire to have a homeland and my opposing values.
