ANIMALS THROUGH EARLY ART

Final for Art History II, May 2023
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, paper, tape, posterboard, brass fastener

This project was made for an open-ended final assignment for Art History, through which we had to explore a theme that we had noticed in our studies throughout the class. My interpretation of the assignment aims to explore the depiction of animals through early art history. It focuses on prehistory: Egypt; Africa; Mongolia; Peru; China; Greece; Rome; Japan; and India. The depiction of animals in each culture teaches us about many aspects of their society, including religion, class, and economy. Through the analysis of the symbolization of animals in each culture and the way animals were used in art, viewers can draw connections and comparisons between the many different cultures. The interactive elements provide more information about certain art styles or religious usages in some cultures, and invite interaction and curiosity in the viewer.
